What Is Momentum?
Momentum = how FAST price is moving in one direction. Strong upward momentum means many buyers are pushing price up fast. When momentum weakens, the trend may reverse. We follow trends because reversing them is like standing in front of a moving train.
Why We Follow The Trend
Old trader saying: "The trend is your friend until it ends." Prices move in waves. Trading WITH a trend has higher probability of success than betting AGAINST it. Even when RSI shows oversold, if trend is strongly DOWN, we should be cautious with BUY signals.
RSI (Relative Strength Index)
Above 70: possibly overbought (price may fall). Below 30: possibly oversold (price may rise). Warning: RSI can stay overbought/oversold for a long time in strong trends. It is not a buy/sell button.
MACD (Moving Average Convergence Divergence)
Signal line cross up: momentum turning bullish. Cross down: bearish. Warning: MACD lags actual price and gives false signals in sideways markets.
Bollinger Bands
Price near upper band = high volatility zone. Near lower = low. Warning: "band touch" is NOT a signal — price often walks the band during trends.
Ichimoku Cloud
Price above cloud = uptrend. Below = downtrend. Inside cloud = no trend, avoid trading. Popular in Asian gold trading. Warning: complex — study fully before use.
VWAP (Volume Weighted Average Price)
Institutional traders use VWAP as a benchmark. Price above VWAP = buyers in control today. Below = sellers. Resets daily.
DXY (Dollar Index) Correlation
Gold and DXY usually move OPPOSITE. If DXY rises, gold often falls. Check DXY before any gold trade.
Multi-Timeframe Rule
A "BUY" on 5-minute chart means nothing if the 1-hour and 4-hour show "SELL". Always check higher timeframes first. The Multi-Timeframe Analysis panel above shows all at once.
